The Color of the Sun

Hellos and welcome, dear readers!

Managed to finish translating and am now in the process of practicing the Halloween song I plan to be uploading hopefully by Halloween!

I was looking out the window and noticing how bright red the leaves were turning on the trees outside. So I wondered if maybe I'd take some pics and upload or not.

Should I or shouldn't I?

Speaking of red, I remember...

So instead of about leaves turning colors, I thought of something else that I wanted to mention.

So I've been using Canva's pictures of the yellow sun because I thought they were pretty cute.

Then it occurred to me...

The sun in Japan is red.

Right. I don't know if kids still use red, but when I was little, in Japan, we used to color the sun red.

If you look at the flag of Japan, the red circle signifies the sun.

But when I first came to the U.S., and when I looked around when it was drawing time,

I was like wait

Everyone's coloring their sun yellow, not red!!

え!?

HUH?

And here I am, coloring my sun red...

As a child, I guess I must have felt a little embarrassed that I was doing something differently from everybody else.

So I started coloring my sun yellow as well.

Just one piece of culture shock out of the many that I had when first came over to the U.S. :)

Now that I'm grown up, I know there are scientifc reasons for the sun to look redder in Japan (something with the atmosphere).

Whereas the sun in the U.S. looks much whiter.

During dusk, the sun does look a bit purplish red, but not the huge bright red ball that it is in Japan. Even though sometimes the sunset in the U.S. does come a bit close to size and color in Japan. Very rarely though.

So anyhow, I know there are reasons for the sun to appear differently in the two countries, but at the time, I just felt confused and embarassed. lol

It was a very tiny culture shock, but the fact that I still remember that slight shock to this day, I guess, is telling of how actually shocked I felt by the difference.

There are many other culture shocks I felt, but for today, let me wrap it up with just the difference of colors with the sun.

Thank you for reading this far. Hope to be able to write about the Halloween video in my next blog! Til then! Taka out!
