Taka Pen's Blurt-Log

Translyrics and Stuff

Sky and Food

Hellos and welcome dear readers!

I've been randomly liking tweets about studying English and getting things done early in the morning. Seeing people getting motivated is pretty motivating, it's nice. :)

Getting up early to get things done sounds like a dream, especially since I'm always going to bed and getting up late as can be. lol But I would do it if I could!

The Sky

So anyway, while I'm getting motivated by all the motivated tweets, I'm taking pictures of the sky as usual.

This is my first video upload on Instagram!

見る方に不親切仕様ですが^^;

Not that I've done any edits to it or anything, so the image is as unsteady as can be. lol

It was just that when I made myself go outside this weekend, the sky looked so nice and blue with the puffy clouds, oh and look at the contrail moving... eh why's that moving? I've never noticed a moving contrail! So I wanted to try to take a video of the moving contrail. I guess it was pretty windy.

You can just keep the sound muted since all the sound that's in there is the wind blowing heavily. lol

Anad after that, every time I noticed anything interesting in the sky, I took pictures, while I was outside.

Look at those puffy and dense clouds!

And there, they look like they've just run the paint brushes on the clouds!

The sunset shining on the clouds and the power lines!

などなど

etc., etc.

Unlike my usual walks, I was out for the whole afternoon, so I was able to take a bunch of different faces of the sky.

The Donut Incident

And during my outing that day, something strange happened.

I needed to get a latte, so I went to Dunkin' Donuts.

And for some reason, they offered me a donut.

I like donuts, but I didn't go there for a donut, so I tried to decline.

But it wasn't an offer, but more like they were forcing the donut on me, so I gave in and thanked them for the freebie.

Before going to Dunkin' Donuts, I'd actually gone to Starbucks that's in the same mall as Dunkin' Donuts, but the line was too long and there were only two people behind the counter, so I'd gone with Dunkin' Donuts because there was no line.

But given such a warm welcome,

Perhaps I should always go to Dunkin' Donuts going forward. lol

And here's the pic of the donut they forced on me:

From how it looked, smelled and tasted, I'm guessing it was a fall special because it tasted like maple sugar and cinnamon. A lot of it. It even had maple sugar filling. Overdoing it too much on the maple sugar maybe? lol

American sweets are sickly sweet compared to Japanese sweets, but having grown up in the U.S., I'm used to it and have actually grown quite a sweet tooth. lol

I was tired from my outing, too, so I glady took in the sugar high.

Okra and Grapes Incidents

One of my tasks during my outing was grocery shopping.

For grocery shopping, I usually go to the following stores: a Japanese grocery store, a Korean grocery store, a regular American supermarket, and Whole Foods.

This time, I needed to go to a regular American supermarket, and as I was browsing the fruits and vegetables section,

My, what beautiful and tasty looking okras!

My, what wholesome and yummy looking grapes!

So I got myself some okras and grapes.

Although I knew from looking up on wiki that okras are not Japan specific food staple, for some reason I'd only seen them at the Japanese grocery store, so it was actually a pleasant surprise to see okras at the regular supermarket.

So because they were so huge and lovely looking, I decided to buy the okras.

・・・

Well...

If you know your okras, you might be able to tell how this story turns out...

After getting home, I was washing away my okras.

I've always eaten the okras raw with soy sauce, and I don't really know how else to eat them. lol

*munch munch* Yay! These are so yummy! Nice and crunchy, make me want to eat more and more! Next one!

Ouch.

えっ

Huh?

Eh????

Normally okras are nice and crunchy, and break off when you bite them. But this okra, when I bit into it there were a bunch of stringy stuff...

What on earth...?

A bad okra?

はてな

Hmm?

I just assumed it was just a bad one of the bunch and threw it away.

I mean unfortunately, unlike Japan, American stores sell a lot of bad products, so I'm used to it. (Or is it just that I'm bad at telling apart the good ones from the bad ones? lol)

*crunchy crunchy*

So I start munching away again.

And the next...

Ow.

Ummmmm!?

For real, what on earth!?

They can't possibly be selling that many bad okras, so I googled.

So apparently, okras, if they're harvested late, turn pretty hard so that it's kind of difficult to eat.

And you can apparently tell by their size.

So I check my okras and just as I was happily thinking what big beautiful okras they were at the store, they're all big and likely not very edible. :)

感動を返して・・・;;

Let me retract my joy at the store...!

なんとか完食しようと思ってます;;

Looks like they're all pretty big and unedible... but I guess I'll try boiling and cutting them into itty-bitty tiny pieces and hopefully that way I can eat them!

And onto the grapes thing.

This grape incident is actually an on-going thing for me this year.

なんか

These

organic and seedless green grapes...

unless I'm mistaken

although they're called "seedless"

they seem to have a whole lot of seeds in them??

I'd purchased "organic seedless" grapes from different stores recently, but they all had seeds inside for some reason. But I figured I'd give it at least one more try because I love green seedless grapes.

案の定

And guess what?

They're full of seeds again... :)

I mean they taste great because they're organic, I guess, but...

So now that I've confirmed that "organic seedless grapes" are in fact full of seeds, I'll just buy regular non-organic seedless grapes from now on.

Because at least I know they're really seedless!!!

And below are the pictures of the said okras and grapes:

And Some

After the pictures of the okras and grapes, there's an extra pic. :)

The day after my main outing, I'd also gone grocery shopping at the Japanese food store. I actually wanted to get some standard "yakisoba" but they were out of it, and I could only find this soy sauce soba? So I got those.

Apparenly the lids have limited time only pictures on them: some piece of artwork and the Merlion.

I guess the water pours out of the Merlion's mouth.

And the other one, I guess the girl in the picture is holding maybe a milk pitcher or something and the water comes out from around that area. lol

I bought two and they had different pictures on them so I decided to take pics of them before I forgot. :)
