And in the meantime, yours truly wannabe-Instagrammer is trying to take (and likely failing) Instagram-worthy pics. lol

So anyway!

寒いです / It's Freezing
先週寒い寒い言ってましたが
今週それよりも寒くなりました（笑）
I've been mentioning how much chillier it's gotten last week, but now it's gotten even colder! lol
お家を出た時点で-4度でした！
流石にピリッとした寒さで
気持ちよかったです！
It was only about 29 degrees fahrenheit this morning when I left home! Pretty nice and brisk!
会社に着いて写メを撮ったところ
So I took pictures once I got to the office.
特に空の色に
あんまり代わり映えはない
感じでしょうか？
Not much of a difference to the hues of the sky despite the cold, I guess?
太陽がまぶしっ
The sun was pretty bright to the point of almost hurting.
と思ってたら
スマホさんも
まぶしっ
と感じたようで
写メでは
太陽ギラギラで空が
ほぼまっくらけですね（笑）
And it looks like my phone shares my sentiments. The pic shows the glaring sun, but everything else is like they're completely in the dark. lol
なんとかお空の雰囲気を
とらえたい、と
相変わらずの飛行機と
あとは何にもない
青空
を撮ってみました
With the other pictures, I was trying to see if I can somehow capture the overall feeling of the cold winter morning, so there's a pic with a plane, as usual, and just the sky with nothing else in the pic.

So anyway, totally unrelated with no segue, below are pics I took last week but hadn't been able to make any mention of.

Since I hadn't written about them, I can't remember why I wanted to take those pics. :P

もうお外は真っ暗です
でもなんかお空が
明るいです
みたいな感じを
お伝えしたかったような（笑）
I think something about how dark it gets at 5pm now because the sun's completely gone down, but somehow the sky is kind of bright, which is kind of weird.
で、何のお話ししたいのか
忘れたので、とりあえず
全く関係のない小話でも
So, since I've forgotten what I'd meant to write about, I thought I might as well write about something totally different.
タカペンは自称"ないリンガル"です
日本語も完璧に喋れない
英語も完璧に喋れない
ないない尽くしリンガルなんですね
I consider myself a "neilingual" as in fluent in neither Japanese nor English. I hesitate to call myself bilingual and feel more comfortable referring to myself as a neilingual.
日本生まれのアメリカ育ちなので
結局あぶはち取らずな言語になり
日本語ではろくに敬語が使えません
（漢字も実は全然書けないです（笑））
I was born in Japan but raised in the U.S. so I feel that I'm fluent in neither language. Japanese, especially, I'm unable to manipulate the polite language, and I could not write the Chinese characters to save my life.
そんな、ないリンガルなタカペンが
日本語でちょっとした言葉のあやを
使ってボケようととすると
起こることがあって
So sometimes when a neilingual like me tries to make jokes in Japanese by playing on words, things don't quite go as planned.
たとえば「日常茶飯事」とかを
わざと
「にちじょうちゃはんじ」と
言ったりしたとして、
タカペンの素性を知ってる方だと
「（間違ってると指摘するべきか否か！？）」
と言う葛藤が起きるようです（笑）
So for example, there's a Japanese phrase "nichi jou sa hanji" which basically means "something that happens routinely that it might as well be a daily thing." It's all in Chinese characters and the character for "sa" is normally read "cha" and means tea. In this phrase, it's never read "cha" but just as a joke, I might say " oh it's nichi jou cha hanji" and just basically wait for someone to chime in that "hey, that's not how you say that" or anything, really.
However, in most cases, people I speak with know that I grew up in the U.S. and am unable to speak Japanese as fluently as someone growing up in Japan, so they seem to fall into a quandary most of the time, and I can see them debating whether or not to to correct me because I made a mistake in Japanese and can't tell whether or not it was an intentional play on words or not.

結局、数舜の躊躇いののち、
普通に会話が続いてしまい
ボケがスルーされてしまいます（笑）
Usually, the other person ends up being unable to decide, so they just let it go and after a brief pause, they decide against saying anything so my joke kinda just falls splat on the ground. lol
申し訳ないなー
と思いつつ
それでもめげずに
頑張ってたまに
日本語でボケをかましたい

I feel kind of bad for making people confused and concerned whether they should correct my Japanese or not, but I like playing on words, so I can't help doing it, even though I'm pretty sure the other person won't get the joke and will just be confused. (Yeah, can you tell my people skills just skyrocket out of the atmosphere lol)
まぁでもたまに本気で
日本語間違えてるので
間違いなのかボケなのか
そりゃわかりずらいな～
と自分でも思います（笑）
And to give people their due, I do make honest mistakes in Japanese, so it is kind of hard to tell if I'm joking or genuinely making a mistake. :P

そんな愉快な日常を過ごしている
（のかどうかわかりませんが（笑））
タカペンですが、先週末は
頑張ってお外に繰り出しました！
So that's how my days go by, but last weekend, I managed to get myself to go outside. (Yes, I'm a diehard couch potato.)
ハロウィンの後はクリスマス、だとか
マンハッタンの夜景、だとかを見て
自分も撮りたい！！ と思ったのですが・・・
When I've been checking out other blogs on Hatena blog, as well as tweets on Twitter, I've been seeing Christmassy pics and pics of the Manhattan skyline, so I've been wanting to take pics of those myself.
いつものタカペンクオリティで
全然良い写真撮れてないです（笑）
But, as per my usual quality, here are my extra blurry pics. lol
最初の１枚目から何がなんだか
わからない夜景ですが…
一応左側に写っている橋
見えますかね…
これ、ニューヨークと
ニュージャージーを結ぶ
ジョージ・ワシントン・ブリッジです
The first pic might as well be meaningless, but it is a picture of the George Washington Bridge on the left side of the image.

一応マンハッタンの夜景です
めっちゃ端っこですが（笑）
I'm taking the pic from New Jersey, so you can kind of say it's a picture of the Manhattan skyline... maybe?

地理疎いのでわからない＾＾；
I think it's Upper Manhattan, to be more precise. Maybe. I really don't know since I'm not too familiar with NYC. lol

すっごい遠目ですが
マンハッタン中心部です
ほぼ何も見えませんね（笑）
So the second pic, on the right side, should be the Manhattan, the part that people think of when they hear Manhattan. Not that you can really see anything it's so far away and dark. lol

The third image is a video of Upper Manhattan...
やや真ん中あたりに
ちょっと丸っこい？建物があって
いつもあの建物なんだろ～
と思ってるタカペンです
Dunno if you can see it, but there's a dome-like building and I've always wondered what it was. (I still don't know tbh)
いつもなのかわかりませんが
何やらライトの色が
変わってるので
面白いなー
撮れるかなー
と動画を撮ってみました
（わかりますかね・・・！？）
I don't know if this is normal, or if it was just that day, but I saw the lights on the building change colors over time, which I thought was interesting, so I tried taking a video of the color changes... if you can make it out, that is... :)
そして最後は
ハロウィン終わったら
クリスマス一色ですよ！
とやりたかったのですが
お買い物とかだけしてたので
特に街の風景など撮る余裕がなく
とりあえず店先で売ってる
写メっておきました！
And lastly, I wanted to take a picture of something Christmassy showing that Christmas begins right after Halloween, but I'd only gone grocery shopping and wasn't able to take anything really Christmassy, so I just took a pic of Christmas wreaths that the store was selling. lol

言われないと
わからない１枚だったかも（汗
Although... if you weren't told that they were wreaths, you might have a hard time trying to tell what they were...!
まぁまぁ・・・！
クリスマスまでまだちょっと
時間ありますし！
それまでにはなんとか
こちらのクリスマスらしい
風景でも撮れたらと思います！
But anyway! We still do have a little more time before Christmas! So by then I should be able to get out and take something that's more in the spirit of Christmas! :)

They fall every fall and are everywhere, and to this day, I have no clue what they are. And I'll leave you with that. :P
