こんにちは！ タカペン、春の飛行機のお話です

こんにちは！

びっくりするくらいブログ更新頑張ってるタカペンです！
It feels like yours truly has been blogging away more furiously this month like never before since I started this blog! lol
前後しちゃいますが、先々週？ぐらい
ハイキング行ったときも
ハヤブサさんに出会えたので
そのときの写真集です！
Anyhoo, just wanted to put together another set of pictures from my favorite hiking spot. These are actually from like two weeks ago, so before all the snow. I came across the perergrine falcon at a very unexpected place!

とても天気の良い朝でした♪
It was a very sunny morning as you can see. :)
同時にとても寒かったのでところどころ氷を見かけました♪
But it was pretty cold, so there were frozen bits and pieces of water here and there along the trail.
跳ねた水が凍ってるのかな？
I guess water droplets from the splashes were getting frozen?
もう一枚崖の上からハドソン川♪
Just another vast view from atop the cliff.
次の曲の和訳をどうしようと口ずさみながらふと振り向いたら！！
I was mouthing the translyrics as I was walking along and looking off to the side when I suddenly noticed...!
ハヤブサさん！ 頭上でカラスさんが鳴いてたので「なんだろ」みたいな感じで見上げてました、めちゃくちゃ可愛いです！
The hadsomest lovely peregrine falcon! It was looking up at a crow that was cawing above. So cute!! >w<
大分近かったのでびっくりしました！！
It let me get pretty close, it was amazing!!!
今だー！とたくさん写メったのですが全部ピントがずれてましたorz
I was like omg this is my chance! and taking pictures away like crazy, but none of them were in focus... T_T
このハヤブサさん、何気に片足でのってます(笑)
Hard to see, but this bird's actually perched on that pole on one foot only. lol
ハヤブサさんが飛んでちゃったので、そのまま進んだら凍ってる小川
と思いきや実はここ、ちゃんとトレイルで歩ける場所の筈なのに(笑)
After it flew away, I went on with my hike. A completely frozen stream, although that's actually the part where you're supposed to be able to walk. lol
山のいたるところに設置してあるベンチに座ってふと空を見上げたら
雲にポッケが空いて光が♪
As I was taking a brief rest at one of the benches they have along the trail, I looked up and saw this ray of light streaming through a pocket in the sky. :)

水の中の苔がなんかいい感じ♪
A not frozen stream. lol
Kind of looked pretty with the mosses in the water. :)
もういっちょ、同じ場所
ここ渡るのいつもちょっとドキドキします
ぼちゃんしそうで(笑)
And another pic of the same place at a different angle. This spot always makes me kind of nervous crossing it. wondering when I'm gonna lose my footing and go splat! lol

雪山ハイキング / Hiking Through Snow

Hellos and welcome, dear readers!
雪山ハイキングにはまりそうなタカペンです！
Hiking on snow covered ground turned out to be more fun than expected!
週末ハイキング行ったとき雪が積もってて
楽しすぎたのでブログに写真を纏めてます♪
It was so gorgeous and fun to see the snow laden scenery and I took a lot of pictures, so I just wanted to put them in one place.

駐車場すぐそばの道。かちんこちんに凍った氷の上に雪が乗っててめちゃくちゃ滑りました（笑）
The pavement by the parking lot was completely frozen with snow on top. It was pretty slippery like an ice rink, just with snow on top.
先週雪とみぞれが降ったので結構氷の混ざってる感じでした
It snowed and sleeted last week, so it was mostly icy and crunchy snow on the ground and elsewhere.
雪の楽しいところは足跡！
でも何の動物が足跡を残したのかわからないです（笑）
What I love about snow are all the footprints left by different birds and animals. Can't quite tell what left these particular footprings.
冬の冷たい太陽と雪化粧♪
Just a gorgeous winter landscape with the winter sun.
登山と言うより下山なのですが、結構足元危険でした（笑）
It was kind of treacherous going down the cliff area since all the snow was frozen and slippery. Went super slow!
半分まで来たところで下から声をかけられて、どうしたんだろうと思ったら、心配してくれたようで私が下りきるまで待ってくれたおばさんがいました。感謝♪
Midway down, someone called out to me from below. I thought she was just commenting on how dangerous it was and that was it, but when I got down, she was still there, so I think she was looking out for me. <3

Looks like something out of a calendar. :)
崖っぷちから見る雪と足跡♪
Took a pic showing snow, footprints, and the Hudson River. :)
多分リスの足跡
それとタカペンの目の錯覚か、足跡が浮き出てるように見えて足跡に見えなくなったりします（汗
I think these are footprints left by a squirrel. Also, for some reason the footprints look like they're bulging out, not caved in. Something wrong with my eyes...?

そして上の写真と同じく、足跡が浮き出してるように見えたりするのはなんでだろう…
Bird footprints, I think. And same thing with this pic as above. The shadows make them look like they're bulging out of the snow, not caved in... x.x
多分鹿の足跡？ 蹄っぽい
I think, hoping, these are deer footprints? It looks like a hoof print?
なんかアートな色合いの雪
The lighting looks kind of artistic here. :)
何の物体かわからないですが、マリーのアトリエのウニみたいと思って撮りました（笑）
I've no idea what these things are, but they look like uni, or "sea urchins", from Atelier Marie, so I took pics. :P
凍り付いてる小川の氷を撮りたくて、雪をどかしてそうとしてみたのですが、あまりよくわからないですね（笑）
Impossible to tell what this is about, but this is the surface of a small creek that's nearly completely frozen over. I was trying to wipe away the snow to show the frozen slab of ice below.
通り道を横切る小川。この川は流れが結構あるみたいで凍ってなくて…めちゃくちゃ気を付けながら雪と氷の積もった石の上を渡りました…！
This creek crosses the trail. Usually you just skip on some of the stones to cross, but those stones were snow and ice covered, and very slippery. Went across very very carefully...!
別の小川。ここは板の上を渡れるので問題なし！ あとめちゃくちゃ凍ってて、小川の上渡ろうと思えば渡れたかも？ すっころぶかもしれませんが（笑）
Another stream, but they have wooden planks going across, so no issue crossing this one. And this one was frozen solid on the top!
今日は動物全く見れなかったな～と来た道を戻ってるときに鳥が！！ 多分うつってるかも…？ ちょっと遠すぎてはやすぎて全く追い切れず
I was a bit disappointed that I hadn't come across any animals or birds, so when I saw birds soaring far off on my way back, I did my best to get a shot.
鳥撮るのは無理か～と諦めて振り向いたら鹿さんたちが「何してんの」と言わんばかりにこちらを見てました（笑）
And then after I give up on the birds and turn around, lo and behold, the deer, looking at me like they were wondering what the heck I was trying to do. lol
冬毛は夏毛よりも灰色に見えます
Winter coat looks grayer than their summer coat.
夏の鹿さんは痩せこけてて実は結構心配してたのですが、冬の鹿さんはなんかふくふくしてますね
The deer in summer looked so worryingly skinny and malnourished, but the winter deer for some odd reason looks fatter...
凄くモフモフしてそう
They look so fluffy. lol
帰り道、鳥さんにも出くわしました
Came across some birds on my way back as well.
写真ど真ん中の黒いしみみたいの、鳥さんの筈
If you zoom in, that black blob in the middle should be a bird...
この鳥さんのなわばりなのか、ぴーぴーあちこちで鳴いてました
I guess this must be their territory, because they were flittering here and there in this area.
調べたのですが、多分「ユキヒメドリ」？ 綺麗な名前♪
I think they might be "dark-eyed junco" based on what little I can see from these pics.
次に見たのはふっくらしたロビンさん
Then I came across a plump looking robin.
そして最後にはお馴染みになってきたハヤブサさん！！
And then came across the peregrine falcon!!!
寒そうですが、ここ停まってる姿が可愛くて♪
Looked pretty cold on that perch, poor thing. Looks so adorable though.
駐車場に戻ったら車にツララが生えてました（笑）
駐車してから２時間ちょい、凄い寒さだったみたいです（笑）
After about two hours of hiking, I came back to find a whole icicle grown from the bottom of my car. lol

Happy Fourth!!

近隣で花火の音だらけの中
ブログ書いてるタカペンです！
Here I am, writing this blog while fireworks are popping all over the town. lol
I just pray no one has an accident!
最近漫画の更新ばかりだったので
ちょっとだけアメリカ日常記事です！
Anyway, here's a brief Taka Pen bilingual diary that I haven't written in a while!
The Fourth of July
正直何から独立したのかなんて
気にしてる現代人は少ないのではないかと
Everyone in the U.S. would know that July 4th is a holiday, although frankly, I highly doubt anybody's worried about who or what we became independent of! lol
Of course, that could be just me because I am so highly uninterested in history!!
とにかくアメリカうぇーい！
飲めや歌えや踊れやの
どんちゃん騒ぎの日です
今年は翌日平日なので
普通にお仕事ですが…！
Anyway, I think to most people, the Fourth is just having lots of fun with family and friends, watching or going to a Fourth concert.
Although to people who haven't taken the week off, tomorrow's just your regular work day!!
タカペンの恒例行事（過去）/ Taka Pen's Tradition (Past)
何年か前まではタカペンにも一応
恒例行事がありました
Until several, or many, actually, years ago, I had my own little tradition for the Fourth.
夜はテレビでボストンポップスオーケストラの
Fourth of July野外コンサート鑑賞してました
I used to watch on TV the Fourth of July concert held by the Boston Pops Orchestra at the Hatch Shell.
過去形になってしまったのは
実はこのコンサート毎年
フィナーレにチャイコフスキーの
1812年の演奏に合わせて大砲を打つ
と言うのが恒例だったのですが
いつだかこれやらなくなったか
凄い曲が省略されたか、ちょっと
うろ覚えですが、なんだ、タカペンの
知ってるのと違うやーとなって
観なくなりました
In the past, they used to play Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture in full and the cannons went off at the most exciting climax parts. That would be your finale. One year, I don't remember which, they either didn't have it or really shortened the piece to just the cannon area, which didn't sit right with me.
I understand the irony of playing the piece at an American Independence Day concert, but if you're going to still use it, just stick with it. I mean I, for one, enjoy the whole piece in its entirety, not just the cannon part. It doesn't build up enough excitement without the whole thing! T_T
So, I no longer watch.
現在 / Present
今は恒例行事はないです
もうただひたすら
休みだーーーーーと
休みを満喫します(笑)
So right now, I have no Fourth of July traditions. I just enjoy the day off to the fullest! :)
先日はコロナの影響もあり
長らく会えなかった大学時代の友人と
ランチをしたり、今日に至っては
何の日かすっかり忘れて
ハイキング行ってきてました(笑)
Like the other day, I went out with my longtime friend from college that I haven't seen since the pandemic started, and we caught up with each other. And today, I went hiking, not even remembering what day it was nor why I had the today off, to begin with. lol!
すれ違う人たちと挨拶したり
ちょっと会話したりするのですが
今日は最後に会ったグループと
別れた際に "Happy Fourth!!"と言われて
∑('0'*)ﾊｯ!
そうだった！！ と慌てて
"Happy Fourth!!" と返して
そこで思い出したのでした(笑)
When hiking, I usually exchange greetings with people going the other way and if they seem chatty, strike up short convos. The last group I met today, one of them shouted "Happy Fourth!" as we parted, which took me by surprise because I had completely forgotten that today was Independence Day, and barely managed to give back the same greeting. lol
とりあえず以上、Happy Fourth! でした！
もう日本は4日じゃないし、こちらも
あと数時間で終わりますが(笑)
So that was my Happy Fourth! Although in Japan, it's no longer the fourth, and here on the East coast, it'll no longer be the fourth in a few hours. :P
