を和訳して歌ってみました！！
For this month, I'm doing a Japanese cover of the theme song for my favorite video game character! (Well actually, theme song for the game, not the character, lol)
そしてなんと！！
And guess what!
初！和訳です！！！

タカペンに永遠のトラウマを
植えつけたプレステの大昔のゲームです
Final Fantasy VII is a video game that left an indelible impression on me, and not in a so positive way...!
ヒロインのエアリスがあんなことになり
号泣したタカペンです
I mean what they did to Aerith was heinous!! T_T
I was watching my brother play in his room and had to go back to my room to bawl like a baby because of what happened at the end of Disc 1.
思い出しただけでちょっと涙が（泣
Just thinking back to that incident brings tears to my eyes. ;-;
それぐらい思い入れのある
ゲームと言うよりは
キャラなんですけどね
That's how much of an impression the game, or rather, the character, made on me.
そのキャラのテーマソングと言っても
過言ではない感じの
ファイナルファンタジー7リバース
と言うリメイクの宣伝動画を観て
So when they came out with the FFVII Rebirth trailer with Aerith singing the theme song, I was like...
ゲームはやらんけど
曲は歌いたい！！
I'll never play the game, but I want to sing that song!!!
でもタカペンチャンネルは一応
英訳趣旨のチャンネルなのに
良いのだろうか…
But my channel is supposed to be for English translated covers... maybe not the place to do a cover of an English song... (Although really, I've already done that with the Little Mermaid song. lol)
じゃあ和訳すればいい！
So then I'll just translate from English to Japanese! That's kind of in line with the point of my channel, isn't it? maybe? lol

And so, I came up with a Japanese translated version of the song. :)

初の和訳に挑戦してみたわけですが
和訳って
英訳より
難しいですね(笑)
So... this was my very first ever Japanese translation of a song, and boy, going from English to Japanese is more difficult than doing it the other way around!
いつもいつも英訳するとき
メロディーの音に比べて
単語が足りない！！って
なるんですが
Whenever I translate from Japanese to English, I always run out of syllables to fit into the original melody and have to kind of make up additional lyrics or really elongate the words to fit into the melody.
それってつまり和訳すると
メロディーが足りなさ過ぎて
日本語が入らないと言う
由々しき事態に…！
What I didn't realize was that if I'm translating from English to Japanese, that means I actually run out of melody to fit the words into!!
最初は絶対にメロディー変えないぞー！
と意気込んでたのですが、無理過ぎて
じゃないとめちゃくちゃ片言で
全く意味が通じない歌詞になりそうで
Initially I was going to stick to the original melody, but it was just completely impossible. I mean it was either change the melody and/or rhythm or end up with incomplete phrases that don't have much meaning!
まぁ結局結構意味が通じにくかったり
はまりきらなくてちょっと内容を
すっとばしてる部分とかもありますが
これでも頑張りました(笑)
Since I'm not used to translating to Japanese, I think the lyrics kind of ended up hard to understand anyway and there are parts I just couldn't fit in and left out, but I really gave it my best shot! lol
デ〇ズニーとかミュージカルの曲の
日本語版になると、なんかリズムが
原曲と違って小刻みな理由が
ここに来てわかりました
And now I know why the Japanese version of D1sney and other musical songs sound the way they do, kind of choppy with extra rhythms to the melody lines.

ってなりました(笑)
I was like "okay, now I really get why they sound the way they do!!!"
言葉遣い自体はエアリスのキャラと
あと若干坂本真綾さんを意識してます(笑)
Another thing about translating into Japanese that's different when translating into English is that the Japanese language has different forms of speech. A formal speech used to talk to your superiors is actually different from your formal speech talking to your colleagues, and that's also different from formal speech talking to people who're younger or ranked lower than you. And then you have the numerous types of frank speeches. For this particular version, I tried to imitate Aerith's speech style as well as the speech style used in many of the songs by Maaya Sakamoto, the Japanese voice actor for Aerith.
なので曲名を訳してないの、
ちょっと意図的です
And that's actually one reason I didn't translate the title to Japanese.
