3月に入ったら2月の春らしさは
どこへ行ったのやら
今朝は‐1度で、体感温度が-7度
と言う寒さに震えながら
出勤したタカペンです！
This year, March sure is coming in like a lion, and hopefully it'll go out like a lamb! February felt like we were well into spring, but now that it's March, it's below freezing, go figure. lol
今日のブログはただの日記です！
So anyway, today's entry will be mostly a journal entry!
今日の出来事 / This Morning
とゆーのも
今朝は通勤時にハイウェイで
ちょっぴり捕物劇がありまして
Because I wanted to share what I saw on my way to work this morning on the highway. lol
若かりし頃のタカペンは
車の間を縫って
スピード飛ばす
ハイウェイの迷惑ドライバーの
一人でした ﾃﾍｯ
Way back when yours truly was much younger, yours truly happened to be one of your average reckless drivers. I used to weave in and out of traffic and speeded on the highways.
幸い事故ったことはないのですが
年齢を重ねるにつれて
そんな運転の仕方に疲れてきて
今では平均よりも
別の意味の
迷惑ドライバーです（笑）
I was lucky enough that I never got into an accident doing that, but with age, I just kind of got tired of speeding, so now I drive slower than the average driver and get in people's way. lol
さて、今朝のことですが
So, back to what happened this morning.
通勤の途中にハイウェイで
そこまで渋滞しないけど
ちょっぴりスピードが落ちる
スポットがあるんですね
Along my commute, there's a spot on the highway where cars get a tiny bit congested and everyone needs to slow down a bit. Going about 40mph on a highway is pretty slow when people would rather be doing 70 or more.
タカペンは大抵
右の車線（日本で言うと左ですね）
でトラックの後ろを
I usually drive in the right lane along with the trucks and take things slow and easy, going sometimes like 20mph. lol
そこの部分は
追い越し車線の左も
スピードが
そこまで変わらないのと
下手すると右車線よりも
遅くなったりするので
追い越し車線に
わざわざ入る意味がありません
I don't really get out onto the left lane because for one, I'm lazy, and two, sometimes it's actually slower than the right.
で、その部分を超えると
右に車線が
一時的に増えるんですね
And once you pass that slow spot, an extra lane opens up on the right for a short bit.
大抵はわざわざその車線に
出る車がいないので空いてます
Most cars don't get out onto that lane because it goes away pretty quickly.
なので右に一台も車がおらず
今日も平和だなぁ
と真ん中となった車線で
トラックの後ろを
This morning wasn't any different at first, and there were no cars on the right lane. I was driving in the middle lane with the trucks when suddenly
ぶぅんっ！！
Whoosh!!
と
こちらの車を揺らす風を
巻き起こすぐらいの
スピードで車が右車線を
走っていきました
A car drove past on the right lane fast enough to whirl up a wind strong enough to give my car a slight shake.
おおぅ、さすがに
それどうなの
まぁタカペンも
たまにその車線使って
追い越すけど
Whoa, yeah, I know, sometimes I take that lane to pass cars too...
でも今のどうなの
と
ちらっと思って
But, really...?
Oh, well.
ふんふん♪
次の英訳して歌ってみた動画の
曲を口ずさみながら
とろとろ運転してたら
I was taken aback momentarily, but I went back to practicing my next English cover song, humming and driving along at I think about 60mph.
さっきの車より
さらに凄いスピードで
When once again,
ぶんっ！！
Voom!!
と、白っぽいSUVが
右車線を駆け抜けていきました
Went a whitish SUV in the right lane.
こちらの車の揺れ具合から
さっきの車より
また一段階はやいです
Based on how my car wobbled a bit more than the car before, this one definitely went faster.
あれ、警察じゃね
But it looked like a state trooper.
さっきの車追いかけてった？
でも上のライト
ついてなかったしな～
Could it be chasing the car before? But they don't have the sirens on?
ただ単にスピード出してた？
Was it just going fast as heck?
なんだろ？
Hmm???
と
お歌を口ずさみながら
ちょっと先に行ったところ
I went humming along a bit further on the highway and...
パトカーの綺麗な
青色ライトが見えました
Lo and behold, I saw the pretty blue sirens.
わきにとめられた
白のパトカーに
黒の多分ドッジのセダン
The white SUV of the state trooper and the black, probably a Dodge sedan parked on the shoulder.
ああ
Right.
うん
Sure enough.
やっぱり捕まるのね
Justice was served.
タカペンもあの車線で
追い越すのやめよう
I guess I better not use the right lane to pass either.
と
was
思ったのでした
my new decision this morning.
体感的に
普通にスピード違反で
捕まったんだとは思いますが
I mean they probably got caught because of speeding, not for passing on the right lane, but still.
やったらよくないことは
やっぱりやるべきでは
ないですよね☆ミ
Shouldn't be doing what you ought not to be doing, I guess! :)
先週のお空と地面 / Last Week's Sky and Ground
先週既に3月に入ってますが
季節が混乱してる感じです
Last week was already March, but the seasons sure do seem confused enough!
空を見れば
暖かい季節の
青色に変わってきました
The sky had already started to take on the hue of a warmer season.
真冬の空は少し
白んだ色で
冬を抜ければ
抜けるような
青になって温かみを感じます
The winter sky looks a bit whited out, whereas once it gets warmer, the sky starts turning a deeper blue.
その反面地面を見れば
降った雪やら雨が
夜のうちに凍ったりと
まだまだ春にはなりません
On the other hand, though, on the ground, there were leftover ice and snow from precipitation that froze overnight, and it sure as heck didn't feel like spring yet.
冬から春へ / From Winter to Spring
そして北米のもう一つの
季節の移り目を感じる特徴は
渡り鳥さんです
Another feature that makes you feel the seasons are changing are the migrating birds.
いえ、渡り鳥と言うのか
ちょっと専門的にはわかりませんが
カナダグースさんです
The Canada geese.
カナダグースさんです（ｷﾘｯ
とか言って
よくわからない
事件現場の証拠写真みたいなのを
あげてますが（笑）
So I say "the Canada geese" and show what look like pics from a crime scene. lol
先週ちょっとだけ雪が降ったことに
「雪の華」を10秒程替え歌して録音するくらいに
感動したわけですが
Last week, I was moved so much that we were getting snow finally this winter in March, so much so that I even came up with and recorded a 10 second parody of the Japanese song, "yuki no hana (The Snow Flower)" on the spot:
それだけではあきたらず
仕事後にお外に出て
ちょっぴり遊んできたんですね
But that wasn't enough for me, so I went out after work so I could actually feel the snow on the ground.
雪が大分溶けてましたが
まだ残っていて
そんな中
The snow had already started melting and was turning a bit mushy, but even so, I was playing around and...
足跡を発見！！
Voila, big footprints!!!
なんの足跡！？
but who could they belong to!?
と思いつつ
辿りながら
何枚もパシャリパシャリと
写メを撮っていたら
I couldn't quite wrap my mind around how big the footprints were. Each footpring was probably as big as an adult's hand or bigger? So I kept on taking pictures and following the footprints.
なんか現場の証拠写真みたく
なってました（笑）
It was dark, so the pics came out like something the police take at crime scenes. lol
犯人は恐らくカナダグースさんで
足が思ったおり大きかったです（笑）
My guess is that the footprints belong to Canada geese because I don't think there are any other birds that big walking around the neighborhood, but they were bigger than I expected.
で、カナダグースさんの動きを見ると
季節の移り目を感じる理由が
カナダグースさんって
冬は南に移動して
夏は北上するんですね
And the reason I can feel the seasons changing when I see Canada geese is because they migrate to the south in fall and to the north in spring.
なのでカナダグースさんの動きが
活発になると
ああ、季節の移り目だな
と感じます
And so, whenever I see lots of Canada geese on the move, I feel that the seasons are turning.
タカペンは恐らく中間あたりに
住んでるので
年がら年中カナダグースを見ますが
夏場に見てるカナダグースさんと
冬場で見てるカナダグースさんたちは
多分違う個体なんだろうなぁ
と思ってます
I probably live somewhere in the middle of all the north and south movements, so I actually see Canada geese pretty much all year round. Not sure if this is true for other places as well. I'm guessing that the birds I see in the summer are actually different birds from the ones I see in winter. Like they're probably from different flocks.
多分

今は春なので
職場の駐車場にも
今まで見なかったカナダグースさんを
たくさんみかけるので
北上してきて、そして
これからもっと北に向かう
カナダグースさんたちなんだろうなぁ
と横目に見ながら思ってます
Now that it's turning spring, even at the parking space at my workplace, I see many flocks of Canada geese around. They weren't there in the winter, so I'm guessing they're on their way up north, now that it's becoing warmer.
