It took a little longer to upload my video because for the first time ever, during the upload review process, there was a slight issue with the copyright.
Apparently it's not a notice for "violation" of copyrighted content, and therefore it does not affect the status of my channel - whatever that means - but I don't like being told I'm using copyrighted material especially when I am not using any of the original recording material. So I did some research and submitted a dispute claim for the allegation.

I was hoping that with the new phone that maybe I can take better and clearer nighttime pics... but I guess not. The moon actually had a more crescent shape to it, but in the pic, it's become just a blob of light... lol
Yeah, yeah. I know. It's getting old. It's not an unidentified object. It's just an airplane... Again, I was hoping that with the new smartphone, I can take a better close up pic of a nighttime airplane... but it's just become a set of colorful lines. Almost like a time lapse pic. lol
Maybe because it was below freezing, the sky looked bluer even with all the clouds.

The day I took the pic, the midday temp had gone up to 43 degrees, so I couldn't tell if perhaps the whole surface had been frozen over during the days when it stayed way below freezing even during the day. But the edges seem to have frozen over and remained that way!

Yours truly is truly lazy and do not do much with holidays and events; however, I felt impelled to do something since I started uploading songs on YouTube. So...

挑戦してみました
I tried doing a four-part acapella of Carol of the bells by myself.
The duck, I got as a Christmas gift last year or so from a sales person in my company.

社内にも感謝プレゼントを
送らなければならないようです（笑）
I don't know about sales people in other companies, but at least in our company, it looks like sales people are given money by the company to do something for people from other division groups. lol
The music score is for the four-parts acapella Carol of the Bells. You can see parts highlighted in different colors because I'm not used to following non-soprano lines. With soprano, all you have to do is follow the very top line, so it's very easy. Never knew that the other parts were so difficult to follow! Every time I turned a page singing a non-soprano part, my eyes lost track of which line I was looking at, so might start singing the alto part when I was trying to sing the tenor part! lol

And of course, just because I had the score didn't mean I could actually sing the other parts. lol

2022年を振り返る / Looking Back on 2022
さて、では最後に今年を
振り返って行きたいと思います！
And so here we go, looking back on this year, 2022!
I feel like I've watched more animes, but right now if I try to remember what I've watched this year, I can only remember the "Uncle from Another World" or "Isekai Ojisan". lol
最初はサムネや「おじさん」
と言うキーワードで
観なくていいかな、と
思ってたのですが
まぁ他に観るものもないし
地雷覚悟でみてみよう
When I first saw the thumbnail and the title, they kind of put me off, but I gave it a try just so I can cross it out from my potential watchlist.
と思って観たら
面白かったです（笑）
Or so I thought, until I actually watched it, and I actually liked it, counter to my expectations. lol
で、最初は
「おもしろ～」
レベルだったのが
観れば観る程
「めちゃくちゃ面白い！」
「何気に感動する！」
「OPの最後でおじさんが
笑顔になるの、
良かったね、って思える！」
とどんどんはまっていきました（笑）
At first, I was like "well, that's not as bad as I feared," which eventually became "this is pretty funny" to "omg this is hilarious" and at this point, just seeing ojisan smile at the end of the opening sequence kind of makes me feel sentimental. I mean, he went to isekai when he was just a teenager and had to go through all that, and now he's finally back on Earth and having a good time with his nephew. How sweet is that!

A lot of the humor in the anime might fly over a lot of non-Japanese people as well as many Japanese people, tbh. But for me, there could be no other anime that hit the spot like this one!
And yours truly sucks at singing pop songs, especially newer j-pops, but I liked isekai ojisan enough to give the ending a try! So below is my English translated cover of Ichibanboshi Sonority. (And my first ever English cover video!)
Because of what I'm doing, my YouTube channel is the least frequently updated platform out of everything that I have now, but my main activity is what I do on YouTube.

Once I actually started translating and singing, it was all much more difficult than I had initially thought, though. lol

My secondary goal is to explain my translation process and in order to do so, I started this blog because I needed a space where I can write a whole lot.
I've never studied translation, so a professional might be aghast at the way I'm going about translating...

Twitter is my one-stop location that I can put up notices of updates for YouTube, Instagram, and blog entries, so I find it pretty useful.

I've a lot that I want to write about, but for this entry, I decided to finally write a book review. After all, I've been in the English book review group on Hatena Blog for months now without a single book recommendation! High time I rectify that error! :)

The genre of the novel you could say is a mix of fantasy, a tale of growth, and a bit of romance sprinkled in.

There's not a great adventure or anything, so maybe male readers won't enjoy the novel as much as female readers may.
タカペンの思い出 / My Memories of the Book
学生時代は寝る時間を削って
ほぼ1日１冊本を読んでました
When I was a teenager, I used to stay up almost until the morning and read about book a day.
ネタバレ大嫌い、新しいもの大好き
なタカペンなので、基本的に
一度読んだものは二度読まない
主義なのですが
The Changeling Sea
だけは本が擦り切れる程
何度も読み返しました（笑）
I hate spoilers and I love learning new things more than anything, so I very rarely reread any of the books I read. But Patricia A. McKillip's The Changeling Sea, I'd reread so many times so that the book got pretty tattered.

あまり何も言えませんが
切ないけれど、悲しくはない
「そっか、良かったね」
と心がほんのり温まるお話です
I can't really tell much about my experience with the story without giving away spoilers, but suffice to say that although the story has a bittersweet feel to it throughout the book, it's got an ending that makes sense and personally, feels good.
When I went to find the book today, I read somewhere that this novel is geared towards children, but when I bought the book, it was on a shelf along with other sci-fi and fantasy novels for adults, so I don't think the language is really that geared towards children.

読んでみてください！
It might not be an easy read, but I highly recommend the book to anyone who enjoys reading good fantasy novels.
記憶に残った単語 / Vocabulary That Stuck With Me
当時まだミドルスクーラー

まだ語彙力がありませんでした
At the time, when I read the book, I was a middle schooler and my vocabulary wasn't as expansive as it was by the time I had finished high school.
そんなタカペンがこの本で
覚えた単語は今でも記憶に
残っています
I was still picking up new words and phrases from the books I was reading, and in this book there are two words that have stuck with me to this day.
periwinkle
お花でもあり、色でもあると
この本で覚えました
I learned that a periwinkle was a type of bluish flower and that it was also the name of a color. (And I learned that in a really nice way too.)
I highly doubt you'd see the word "hex" in any context that does not mention magic and witches, and when do you ever talk about those in daily conversations except maybe on Halloween!

When I was looking to see if I can find the book on Amazon, Japan, I also found a translated version.
I saw something during my walk that made me so excited that I needed to write a whole blog entry about it. lol
お散歩中の出会い / The Meeting
仕事のストレスなんてーーー
とぷんすか歩いてたら
Work was stressing me out, so I was taking a walk to calm myself down.
ふと前方の木立の地面を
小さな黒っぽい物体が
てけてけ～って
横切ったんですね
And as I was walking, a bit ahead, I saw a small black thing hop across a small clearin ing the woods.
そのサイズで
黒くて
てってってってって～
って動く動物って
With that size, the color, and the way it hopped...
色が違うから、
リスでもオッポサム
でもないし
アライグマとか
グラウンドホッグ
にしては速すぎるし
it wouldn't have been a squirrel or an opossum because of the color, and the black thing was a bit too fast for it to have been a raccoon or a ground hog.
猫？
A cat,
かな？
maybe?
とちらっと思ったんですね
Was what flashed through my mind when I saw the thing.
でも仕事のストレスなんてーーー
と再び怒り心頭で
ドスドスと散歩を続けてたら
But it quickly faded from my mind in my anger and stress at work. lol

So I'd kept on walking when suddenly, the small thing came running down the patch of grass by the sidewalk.
It made me pause in my tracks, which made the squirrel pause in its tracks and run behind a tree.
どうしても見たいな～
と思って
さささっと
木の向こう側にまわった
のですが、太陽がまぶしくて
色彩がよく見えなくて
I really wanted to have another glimpse at it, so I went around to the other side of the tree, and I could see the squirrel on the branch above, but the sun was also in my eye, so I couldn't really see it well.
なので仕方なく
また反対側に回ったのですが
そうすると、
木に近づいちゃうので
So I tried going around the tree to the other side, but because of the placement of the tree, I had to get closer to the tree on that side.
リスさんが
全力で警戒して
木の反対側に
さささっと
移動・・・
Which unfortunately made the squirrel even warier of me, so instead of staying on top of the branch, it went around the tree on the side opposite of where I was.
見えない
Which meant, I couldn't see it at all.
反対側にいる
気配はあるのに
見えない
I could tell that the squirrel was on the other side of the tree, but I just wasn't in a position to see it.
見たいのに
and all I wanted to do was get another good look...
と
しばらく
一人と一匹で
木の回りを
ぐるぐると
まわってました（笑）
And so... Me and the squirrel went around and around the tree, me wanting to see it, and the squirrel hiding from me. lol

更に可愛らしくなるんですよね
Squirrels usually look like furrier version of rats, but for some reason, black squirrels look much cuter, maybe because of the coloring.
Didn't have my phone on me, so I wasn't able to take a pic, so I'm gonna just stick in an URL to the wiki for the black squirrel, so you can have an idea what it looks like. :)
Having come to the U.S., one of the things that surprised me was the number of wild squirrels but I'd gotten used to them quickly since they were everywhere. But a black squirrel, I had never seen.
homg!!! There were even police and firefighters on the site, turning away cars. I got so nervous in case I'd have to evacuate or something, so I kept on tweeting away on the situation. lol

普通の道路に戻ってました
But, after having peaked to a point that got me really worried, the water receded in like half an hour, and by afternoon, there wasn't even a hint of a puddle to show that the roads were that flooded in the morning. Pretty amazing, actually.
And now, today, on Christmas Eve, it is currently 12 degrees fahrenheit and apparently feels like -4 degrees fahrenheight. Go figure!

Only two days ago it was so warm that it rained cats and dogs, but starting yesterday afternoon, the temperature just kept on falling and falling to what it is now.

And there really was no water remaining anywhere, so I didn't get to see the ice patches outside that I was thinking I might be seeing after all that rain. lol

It was freezing today, but the sky was pretty clear, and no moisture in sight!

暖かい方だと思いますが(笑)
I say freezing, but we're likely warm compared to the drop dead freezing temperatures up in areas like Chicago or Canada!

So anyway, it looks like we'll have a frozen Christmas, instead of a White Christmas this year. :)
The types of parties really depend on the company. You've got companies that take their employees and their partners out to a gorgeous dinner party, and on the other end of the spectrum, you've got companies that don't hold any parties at all, so the employees just put together something of their own. Could be a potluck, or just picthing in to order catering.

I bet at the top of the Ferris wheel you'd be able to have an awesome view of Manhattan and other places, but it's probably too far away to take that ideal photo of the Manhattan landscape that I'm trying to take. lol

Besides, I have a pretty bad case of motion sickness so it might not be such a great idea to get on a Ferris wheel.... but I'd like to give it a try...!
今日 / Today
そして今朝も元気に
ぱしゃりぱしゃりと
写メっておりました
This morning also, I was happily taking away pictures.
だって、車の暖気の時間とか
窓ガラスの霜とりとか・・・！
今朝はマイナス4度でした！
It was around 26 degrees and I had to wait for my car to warm up as well as scrape off the frost from the windshield...! So I had time to take pictures. :)
In the 2nd pic, you can't really see it, but I was trying to take a pic of an airplane with a trail of cloud growing steadily longer behind it.
3枚目と4枚目は
全部飛行機雲が風に吹かれて
広がったのかな～
面白いな～と思って
撮りました♪
The third and fourth pics, I was just taking pictures of the clouds. It looked to me like they were all contrails that were dispersed by the winds and they were filling up the sky like they're clouds. (But they aren't, or are they...?)
5～6枚目は霜です！
The 5th and 6th pics are of the frost on the car.
多分最近
日中はまぁまぁ暖かくて
夜に氷点下になるので
車に霜がつきやすいみたいです
I'm guessing that lately it gets relatively warmer during the day but goes below freezing point at night so the humidity creates condensation on the car and hence frost over during the night.
全力で車を暖気しながら
フロントガラスの霜を
しゃーりしゃーり
ぎゃああ痛いいいいい＞＜；
と思いながらとってました
I had the heater blasted on in the car while I scratched away at the frost on the windshield with the ice scraper... and ugh the sounds hurt...!!
うん、氷やめて欲しいです
綺麗なんですけどね！
I just wish it'd stop frosting over on the glass... The frost is pretty to look at but the sounds they make getting scraped off, are definitely not pretty...!
7～8枚目は
空だ！
太陽だ！
一日の始まりだー！
と撮りました（笑）
The 7th and 8th pics, I just took of the sky. Whenever I look up and there are clouds against a blue sky, it just makes me feel excited for some reason. The cloud patterns are mesmerizing, I guess.
Regarding the picture of the sun, I'm actually unable to really look at what I'm taking because the sun's so bright. I kind of just point the phone in the general direciton, tap the shutter button and hope that it takes a decent pic. lol
