My first ever guitar sing along! I did a very brief parody of "yuki no hana" on X, formerly known as Twitter, and someone was kind enough to comment that they'd like to hear the full version. I didn't know how to look for instrumentals back then, so I figured I'd try accompanying myself with a guitar that I've never really played before. lol

ハヤブサさん / A Peregrine Falcon

こんにちは！

Hellos and welcome, dear readers!

びっくりするくらいブログ更新頑張ってるタカペンです！

It feels like yours truly has been blogging away more furiously this month like never before since I started this blog! lol

前後しちゃいますが、先々週？ぐらい

ハイキング行ったときも

ハヤブサさんに出会えたので

そのときの写真集です！

Anyhoo, just wanted to put together another set of pictures from my favorite hiking spot. These are actually from like two weeks ago, so before all the snow. I came across the perergrine falcon at a very unexpected place!

とても天気の良い朝でした♪

It was a very sunny morning as you can see. :)

同時にとても寒かったのでところどころ氷を見かけました♪

But it was pretty cold, so there were frozen bits and pieces of water here and there along the trail.

跳ねた水が凍ってるのかな？

I guess water droplets from the splashes were getting frozen?

もう一枚崖の上からハドソン川♪

Just another vast view from atop the cliff.

次の曲の和訳をどうしようと口ずさみながらふと振り向いたら！！

I was mouthing the translyrics as I was walking along and looking off to the side when I suddenly noticed...!

ハヤブサさん！　頭上でカラスさんが鳴いてたので「なんだろ」みたいな感じで見上げてました、めちゃくちゃ可愛いです！

The hadsomest lovely peregrine falcon! It was looking up at a crow that was cawing above. So cute!! >w<

大分近かったのでびっくりしました！！

It let me get pretty close, it was amazing!!!

今だー！とたくさん写メったのですが全部ピントがずれてましたorz

I was like omg this is my chance! and taking pictures away like crazy, but none of them were in focus... T_T

このハヤブサさん、何気に片足でのってます(笑)

Hard to see, but this bird's actually perched on that pole on one foot only. lol

ハヤブサさんが飛んでちゃったので、そのまま進んだら凍ってる小川

と思いきや実はここ、ちゃんとトレイルで歩ける場所の筈なのに(笑)

After it flew away, I went on with my hike. A completely frozen stream, although that's actually the part where you're supposed to be able to walk. lol

山のいたるところに設置してあるベンチに座ってふと空を見上げたら

雲にポッケが空いて光が♪

As I was taking a brief rest at one of the benches they have along the trail, I looked up and saw this ray of light streaming through a pocket in the sky. :)

凍ってない小川(笑)

水の中の苔がなんかいい感じ♪

A not frozen stream. lol 

Kind of looked pretty with the mosses in the water. :)

もういっちょ、同じ場所

ここ渡るのいつもちょっとドキドキします

ぼちゃんしそうで(笑)

And another pic of the same place at a different angle. This spot always makes me kind of nervous crossing it. wondering when I'm gonna lose my footing and go splat! lol

雪山ハイキング / Hiking Through Snow

こんにちは！

Hellos and welcome, dear readers!

雪山ハイキングにはまりそうなタカペンです！

Hiking on snow covered ground turned out to be more fun than expected!

週末ハイキング行ったとき雪が積もってて

楽しすぎたのでブログに写真を纏めてます♪

It was so gorgeous and fun to see the snow laden scenery and I took a lot of pictures, so I just wanted to put them in one place.

駐車場すぐそばの道。かちんこちんに凍った氷の上に雪が乗っててめちゃくちゃ滑りました（笑）

The pavement by the parking lot was completely frozen with snow on top. It was pretty slippery like an ice rink, just with snow on top.

先週雪とみぞれが降ったので結構氷の混ざってる感じでした

It snowed and sleeted last week, so it was mostly icy and crunchy snow on the ground and elsewhere.

雪の楽しいところは足跡！

でも何の動物が足跡を残したのかわからないです（笑）

What I love about snow are all the footprints left by different birds and animals. Can't quite tell what left these particular footprings.

冬の冷たい太陽と雪化粧♪

Just a gorgeous winter landscape with the winter sun.

登山と言うより下山なのですが、結構足元危険でした（笑）

It was kind of treacherous going down the cliff area since all the snow was frozen and slippery. Went super slow!

半分まで来たところで下から声をかけられて、どうしたんだろうと思ったら、心配してくれたようで私が下りきるまで待ってくれたおばさんがいました。感謝♪

Midway down, someone called out to me from below. I thought she was just commenting on how dangerous it was and that was it, but when I got down, she was still there, so I think she was looking out for me. <3

１月のカレンダーとかの写真みたい♪

Looks like something out of a calendar. :)

崖っぷちから見る雪と足跡♪

Took a pic showing snow, footprints, and the Hudson River. :)

多分リスの足跡

それとタカペンの目の錯覚か、足跡が浮き出てるように見えて足跡に見えなくなったりします（汗

I think these are footprints left by a squirrel. Also, for some reason the footprints look like they're bulging out, not caved in. Something wrong with my eyes...?

そして上の写真と同じく、足跡が浮き出してるように見えたりするのはなんでだろう…

Bird footprints, I think. And same thing with this pic as above. The shadows make them look like they're bulging out of the snow, not caved in... x.x

多分鹿の足跡？　蹄っぽい

I think, hoping, these are deer footprints? It looks like a hoof print?

なんかアートな色合いの雪

The lighting looks kind of artistic here. :)

何の物体かわからないですが、マリーのアトリエのウニみたいと思って撮りました（笑）

I've no idea what these things are, but they look like uni, or "sea urchins", from Atelier Marie, so I took pics. :P

凍り付いてる小川の氷を撮りたくて、雪をどかしてそうとしてみたのですが、あまりよくわからないですね（笑）

Impossible to tell what this is about, but this is the surface of a small creek that's nearly completely frozen over. I was trying to wipe away the snow to show the frozen slab of ice below.

通り道を横切る小川。この川は流れが結構あるみたいで凍ってなくて…めちゃくちゃ気を付けながら雪と氷の積もった石の上を渡りました…！

This creek crosses the trail. Usually you just skip on some of the stones to cross, but those stones were snow and ice covered, and very slippery. Went across very very carefully...!

別の小川。ここは板の上を渡れるので問題なし！　あとめちゃくちゃ凍ってて、小川の上渡ろうと思えば渡れたかも？　すっころぶかもしれませんが（笑）

Another stream, but they have wooden planks going across, so no issue crossing this one. And this one was frozen solid on the top!

今日は動物全く見れなかったな～と来た道を戻ってるときに鳥が！！　多分うつってるかも…？　ちょっと遠すぎてはやすぎて全く追い切れず

I was a bit disappointed that I hadn't come across any animals or birds, so when I saw birds soaring far off on my way back, I did my best to get a shot.

鳥撮るのは無理か～と諦めて振り向いたら鹿さんたちが「何してんの」と言わんばかりにこちらを見てました（笑）

And then after I give up on the birds and turn around, lo and behold, the deer, looking at me like they were wondering what the heck I was trying to do. lol

冬毛は夏毛よりも灰色に見えます

Winter coat looks grayer than their summer coat.

夏の鹿さんは痩せこけてて実は結構心配してたのですが、冬の鹿さんはなんかふくふくしてますね

The deer in summer looked so worryingly skinny and malnourished, but the winter deer for some odd reason looks fatter...

凄くモフモフしてそう

They look so fluffy. lol

帰り道、鳥さんにも出くわしました

Came across some birds on my way back as well.

写真ど真ん中の黒いしみみたいの、鳥さんの筈

If you zoom in, that black blob in the middle should be a bird...

この鳥さんのなわばりなのか、ぴーぴーあちこちで鳴いてました

I guess this must be their territory, because they were flittering here and there in this area. 

調べたのですが、多分「ユキヒメドリ」？　綺麗な名前♪

I think they might be "dark-eyed junco" based on what little I can see from these pics.

次に見たのはふっくらしたロビンさん

Then I came across a plump looking robin.

そして最後にはお馴染みになってきたハヤブサさん！！

And then came across the peregrine falcon!!!

寒そうですが、ここ停まってる姿が可愛くて♪

Looked pretty cold on that perch, poor thing. Looks so adorable though.

駐車場に戻ったら車にツララが生えてました（笑）

駐車してから２時間ちょい、凄い寒さだったみたいです（笑）

After about two hours of hiking, I came back to find a whole icicle grown from the bottom of my car. lol

おニューなギター / My New Guitar

最近冷え込んできて雪が見れて

嬉しいタカペンです♪

It's finally getting colder like it's actually winter, and the snow, or rather ice, is sticking to the ground and elsewhere!

ギター記事書いてないことに気づいて

慌てて書いてます（笑）

I just realized I have yet to blog about my guitar, so here we go!

タルレガさんのホ短調のエチュードと

「禁じられた遊び」の第一部？を

つっかえつっかえ弾いてます（笑）

My attempt at playing Tárrega's etude in E minor and part of the "Jeux Interdits", or the "Spanish Romance".

ギターについて / About My Guitar

道端で拾ったヤマハさんのギター、

音は結構好きだったのですが

なんかちょっと大きすぎて

抱え込むと言うより

しがみつく

みたいな感じだったので

小さめのギターの購入を検討してました

I liked the sound of the Yamaha guitar that I found on the street, but it was tad a bit too big for me, so it didn't seem like I was able to hold it too properly. I was more like clinging to it rather than holding it... lol So I'd been contemplating on buying a smaller guitar.

１０月あたり、左肩の調子も大分よくなり

またギター弾くぞ～ってなって

思い切って楽器屋さんに行って買いました

I went to the nearest Guitar Center in October, I think it was, or maybe November. I know I went once just to see, and then second time, to buy the guitar I saw the first time around.

バイオリンだとかろうじて

フルサイズ弾けてるのですが

ギターだと、ちょっぴり

I'm pretty much able to play full size on the violin, but with guitars, I guess I'm a bit too small and need a kids' size, maybe. lol

お値段も初心者向けなのに

音色が綺麗で、楽器屋で

一番最初に手にしたギターで

他のも触ってみたりしたのですが

結局この子に決めました♪

What was great was that it was relatively cheap, what you'd expect to get for your first guitar, but the sound, to my untrained ears, sounded very nice. I don't know what expensive guitars are supposed to sound like, but this one sounded so lovely! It was the first one I tried, and I tried other guitars but ended up going with my little Luna!

弦高がちょっと高すぎるみたいで

大分左手の指が痛いし

バレーコードも抑えきれてないので

本当は楽器屋さんに持ってって

弦高の調整をお願いするべきなのですが

ものぐさを発揮してるタカペンです

I think the fretboard is kind of stretched back? and so the strings are a bit too far away from the board. It takes a bit of extra strength to hold down the strings and it's a bit painful tbh, so I believe I need to bring it to Guitar Center and ask them to adjust it somehow, but I'm kind of being lazy and bearing the pain in the meantime. lol

うん、でも保障があるうちに

持ってかないとですね・・・

Although I really do need to bring it in before the warranty expires!

ちなみに他に触ってみた中に

ハワイアンギターみたいのが

あって、音がさざ波のようで

綺麗でしたが、毎回海にちなんだ

曲を弾くわけではないので

こちらはやめました（笑）

btw amongst the other guitars I tried, there was this Hawaiian made guitar or something, that was was small and cheap in price too, and it sounded great. It sounded like the waves of the ocean when played, so I did like it, except I didn't want everything to sound like the ocean when playing all different kinds of music, so it wasn't too much of a competition against the Luna guitar.

でもお金が有り余ってて、アパートに

置く場所があったらこの子も

お迎えしてたと思います♪

But if I had all the money in the world and space in my apartment, I would've probably gotten it, along with my Luna guitar. :)

練習 / Practicing

さて、せっかくおニューのギターを

手に入れたのだから、ちゃんと（？）

練習したい！

And so, having gotten myself a brand new guitar, I wanted to actually practice.

で検索したところ

タルレガさんのエチュードが

出てきました

I've no idea how guitar beginners learn to play, so I googled using the following keywords: classic guitar, beginner, etude. Then voila, I came across Tárrega's etude in E minor.

これほんとに初心者向けなの？と

日々思いつつ、音が好きなので

ほぼ毎日弾いてます

のわりにあまり上達しませんが（笑）

Everytime I play it, I have to wonder if the etude really is for beginners because it's darn difficult, but I really like the tune, so I play it almost everyday. Although I don't seem to get better at it too much. lol

まだまだ初心者の域を抜けられない

タカペンですが、これからもちまちまと

練習を続けて、上達したタルレガさんの

エチュードをお披露目できたらと思います！

Even though I started playing back in March of 2023, I had to take lots of breaks inbetween, a few weeks in May going to Japan, and pretty much over three months in summer into fall because of my shoulder, so I can't seem to advance from beginner level, but I plan on practicing bit by bit as long as I can! Hopefully I'll be able to record myself playing Tárrega's etude smoothly one of these days!

この曲をやろうと思い付いたのは

多分去年の春頃で、結構前なんですよね

タカペンリリックスを始めたのが「異世界おじさん」

のカバーだったので、一周年記念にも

「いせおじ」の曲を！と思って

I've actually had in my mind to do this song since... like maybe last spring? I wanted to come back full circle to a song from "Iskeai Ojisan" or "Uncle from Another World" because that's what started my whole channel to begin with. :)

なので夏の終わり頃には準備を始めたのですが

肩痛めたり体調不良になったりと諸々あって、

残念ながら記念日の10月9日には

間に合わせることができませんでした＾＾；

I did start preparing towards end of summer, except a lot of things came up, including none too good health of mine kicking into play, amongst other things. So unfortunately, I was unable to upload on October 9th, which I had initially wanted to do.

ただ、遅れたおかげで一つ良いことがありました

録音するまでに時間がかなりかかったので

その分練習や曲に馴染む時間が必然的に増えて

結果的に多分今までのカバーより力が抜けて

歌えたと思います

What did happen though, albeit unintentionally, was that I had additional time to become more familiar and grow attached to the song so that I think I was able to sing it more comfortably than usually.

いつもの練習期間は良くて２～３週間、

そのうち仕事疲れで声を出せてない日も多くて

正味一週間もしっかり練習できてない感じです

Other songs, I usually have maybe 2-3 weeks of practice or less, and not even consecutively at that, because I'm usually too tired from work to practice at night. lol

なので今回は比較的練習もできて

良い感じに仕上がったと思います

多分！

So, I do think the song might have come out better than my other covers. :)

『狂依存同盟関係』と言うヤンデレテーマの企画の

テーマソングで、小悪魔なミクちゃんが可愛い

でも曲調はロックメタル？でかっこいい曲です

So this song came before the Christmas one. The theme back then was yandere so the song was kind of evilly cute kind of song. Seemed like a mix or rock and metal, but I'm very uneducated when it comes to music genres, so I don't really know other than that it's cool, and it was fun to sing to. lol

相変わらず可愛いが似合わないタカペンですが

何よりもバラード専門のタカペンにとっての

鬼門のめちゃくちゃテンポの速い曲で、歌うのが

大変過ぎてNGショート動画を作ったぐらいです（笑）

M voice is far from cutesy so my voice never fits any of the vocaloid songs, but more than that, the biggest challenge for this song was the tempo. It was so fast that I even made a shorts video of an NG take when I was practicing!

バラード専門と言いつつ、なんやかんやで

速めの曲ばかりやってるような気もしますが（笑）

I always say I do mostly ballads, but I feel like I seem to be doing non-ballad songs that are at much faster tempos.

多分タカペンが今までカバーした曲の中で

一番速かったと思います（笑）

I can safely say though, that this song was the fastest song I've ever covered at 180 BPM. lol

この動画は6月24日に投稿しているので

ハナミズキの英語カバー動画の結構すぐあとですね

（タカペンのペースだと！）

I uploaded this song on June 24th, 2023, so right after the "hanamizuki" English cover.

リトルマーメイドの実写映画が出たときに

カバー出している人たちを観て、タカペンも

歌いたいな、でも英訳じゃないし、ただの

カバー動画になるし、チャンネルの趣旨から

外れてるんじゃないか、でもでも大好きな歌だし

歌うなら今じゃなかろうか、どうしよう！？

When the Little Mermaid live action version became the hype, I kept on contemplating singing it, but there wasn't anything to translate, which is the whole purpose of my channel, so I kept on debating on doing this or not because I've always loved the song.

と迷いに迷った挙句、旬を逃して遅れに遅れて

出した感じのカバーでした（笑）

So, after a whole lot of contemplation, I ended up uploading the cover after all the hype died down. lol

ネットで見つけた音源なのですが、とても

ドラマチックな音をしていて、めちゃくちゃ

全力で歌いあげました（笑）

I found the instrumental track on YouTube and fell in love with it! The whole orchestral sounds and everything were just so uplifting and gorgeous that I ended up singing the song pretty much at the top of my lungs. lol

ソプラノ向けの音域なのでとても歌いやすくて

歌うのが大大大好きな３曲のうちの一つです！

The song itself is easier for me to sing to because it's for sopranos, and god forbid, I cannot even sing mezzo soprano range too well! So that's probably why this song is my all time favorite to sing.

映画についての思い出 / About the Movie

映画のストーリー自体はそこまで

好きじゃなかったりします（笑）

I actually don't like how they changed the story in the movie. :P

アンデルセンの「人魚姫」が子供の頃から大好きで

ラストで人魚が風の精霊（？）になる部分も

好きなんですよね（笑）

I've always loved the original story by Anderson, where the little mermaid is turned into a wind spirit or something at the end.

大人になった今でもアンデルセンのお話の

筋が通ってるところが結構好きで

Even as a grown up now, I still like the original because it makes more sense.

人魚姫が海から助けてあげてなければ

王子様は死んでしまっていたけれど

でも波打ち際に倒れてる王子様を見つけた

女性もまた王子様を助けた人ではあるのです

If the little mermaid hadn't rescued the prince, of course, the prince would have died; however, it's also true that the maid who found the prince on the beach also rescued him from a situation.

なので人魚姫を見ていない王子様が

恩人の女性二人のうち、自分が知っている恩人だけに

感謝をして恋に落ちると言うのも

そこはそこで筋が通ってるんですよね

So, it makes sense that the prince, who hadn't seen the little mermaid, would only be grateful to only one of his two rescuers, the maid that he's actually spoken to. I mean why on earth should he fall in love with little mermaid later on after he's met the maid who's rescued him on the beach? Even if the little mermaid is the main protagonist in the story, it's also true that in the prince's story, the main heroine is the maid on the beach, not the little mermaid.

人魚姫を助けようとして自分たちの髪を

犠牲にしたお姉さん人魚姫たちも悪気はないですし

好きな人を殺せるわけがない、と自身の存在の

消滅を選んだ人魚姫もとても心が清らかで美しいと

子供心にも感動しましたし、今でも思います

The little mermaid's older sisters who gave up their long hair also weren't in the wrong for wanting to save their little sister, and the little mermaid for not being able to kill the person she loves even though he's married someone else, was so pure in the heart that I've just always been awe of this story even when I was little.

なのでストーリーとしては人魚姫はアンデルセンの

お話以外受け付けないのですが、デ〇ズニーの

映画はまた別物で子供時代の良き思い出ではあります

So as a story, nothing can surpass the original, but I do watch the D1sney version as a completely different story and I do like it. :)

今程インターネットが便利な時代ではなかったので

ピアノ伴奏ありのデ〇ズニー名曲集みたいな本を

買って、そこで歌詞を見て歌って覚えました♪

In the old days when Internet wasn't as around or useful as much, I loved the D1sney songs so much that I had bought a hardcover songbook and practiced the song. :)

共感の理由 / Why I Love the Song

個人的にとても共感できる曲です

Personally, the song really resonates with me.

あちらの世界ではきっと何もかもが

楽しくて素敵で、同じ年ごろの女の子たちは

もっともっと自由に暮らしてるんだろうなぁって

The song is about yearning for the other world, where all the girls of the same age must be living so freely.

今なんでこんなに共感できるんだろう、と

考えてみて、もしかしたら子供の頃に

渡米したからかな、とふと思いました

When I took a moment to reflect on why this resonates with me so much, it occurred to me that it might be because I came over to the US as a child.

女の子なら誰しもが共感できる歌詞だと

ずっと思っていたのですが、自分が共感できる

理由は、渡米なのかな、と

I used to think that all girls would feel the song, but in my case, it might not have been just about being a girl, but because of the big move as a child.

日本にいたら好きなアニメを観て

好きな本やマンガを読んで、中学生になったら

制服をきて、スカートひらひらして通学して

もしかしたら電車とか乗ったりして、

など子供のころ想像していた気がします

When I was little and I'd just come over to Japan, I think there wer times when I imagined what life might have been like, had I been allowed to stay and grow up in Japan. I would have watched all the animes real time, bought and read all the books and mangas I want real time, and when I got into middle school, I would be wearing a cute school uniform, maybe even get on the train daily to commute to school, and things like that.

日本の学生さんはむしろ私服の自由を

求めることが当然だと思うのですが、タカペンは

ちっちゃい頃近所のお姉さんがセーラー服とか着てて

かっこいいなぁと漠然と憧れがあったので

小学生で渡米してそのままアメリカ暮らしなので

セーラー服に憧れてました（笑）

I imagine most Japanese students would love to get rid of the school uniforms, but I'd never had to wear them, and as a really young kid, I thought it was so cool that the older girls in my neighborhood went around wearing those uniforms, so I was a bit disappointed that I'd come over to the U.S. when I was in elementary school and never got to wear one.

インターネットなんてなかった時代なので

サブスクでアニメなんて論外、本も漫画も

日本のコンビニに置いてる程も

売ってたかどうかレベルで、どんなに

どこでもドアがあれば、と願ったことか（笑）

And it was when there was no Internet as we know it now, so there was absolutely no subscriptions for animes or mangas. The only books and mangas available were what little they had in a mega tiny Japanese market that was about an hour drive away from our home. You've no idea how I wished there was a "dokodemo door (wherever door)" that could take me to wherever I want. (An item from a kids' anime show)

まぁそのおかげでもともと活字中毒だった

タカペンはとにかく本が読みたかったので

全力で英語読めるように頑張ったわけですが（笑）

Although thanks to the lack of Japanese books and mangas, and me being a diehard bookworm, I tried to learn to read in English as  quickly as possible just so I could read! lol

でもやっぱり日本語の本とか漫画は小さい頃

特に渡米直後はとても憧れてました

But, I've always missed the Japanese books and mangas, especially right after we moved over to the U.S.

なので「あちらの世界」への憧れは子供の頃から

正直今もあるような気がします

And so, I think I've always had a yearning for the world yonder, even now.

とは言え10代はファンタジー小説を

読みまくってたので、この世界のあちら側に

存在するに違いない、妖精やエルフなどがいる

「あちらの世界」へ憧れてました

Although by the time I was a teenager, I was reading so much sci-fi and fantasy, my "other world" at that time was probably the other world, as in world with elves and fairies.

大人になった今はもっぱら

温泉とコンビニやファミレスのある日本が

憧れの「あちらの世界」です(笑)

The other world that I yearn now as a grown up is back to Japan where all the food and hot spring are.

なのでどの年代になっても「あちらの世界」

への憧れがある為この曲がずっと好きなのかな～と

思ったり思わなかったり

So, no matter what age, I seem to have a yearning for some kind of "other world" and that might be why I love the song, "Part of Your World."

理由はなんでも、ずっと大好きで歌ってた曲なので

今回はほんとに楽しく歌ってみました！

Anyhoo, no matter my reasons, I've always loved the song, so it was loads of fun actually recording it!
